Chariss- Question 5 extended
Here is our audience feedback on what they thought of how film and how we could improve it.
This feedback sheet was given us before we completed the whole of our film. They say our mise en scene was 'all good' and would consider watching the rest of our film. They gave us a mark of 45/60, i would of liked more feedback to see how we could improve to up our marks.
In this feedback sheet they comment on our camera work and how we have a good variety of shots but said some of our shots were to long, we took this on board and changed this. They also said the genre of our film was clear which is good because we dont want our audience being confused about this.
This feedback sheet they also said we have a good variety of shots and made good use of our costume and location.
We are happy with the good feedback and our bad feedback such as our sound and having some long shots we will take on board and change to make out film better.

Chariss Lee Question 4
No film is for everyone, so it is important to know and find out who your target audience may be; this is because you want your film to succeed and by aiming it at people who are not interested is not the way to do it.
Here is the trailer from Fright Night.
It is very common for the vampire to be male and any age above 18 and in this film they have done exact that and have not challenged any stereotypes. By using a male as the villain makes a more tense/intimidating feeling when it comes to the biting of his victims because males are known to be much stronger and faster than women. However his victims are both females and males all ages, which is also common in vampire films such as 'Let Me In' and 'Twilight'.
The main characters in this film are Teenagers, so it would make sense the film would be aimed at teenagers because they relate by their age and teenagers are interested in other teenagers lives. This film could be aimed at both genders because of the film being a thriller.
Their class is all the same, they live in a nice neighbourhood and from what is shown their parents are working class.
When in the classroom you can see a variety of races, however the main characters in the film are all white, so the target audience for this film may be teenagers, males and females from the white population.
For the film i am creating, our target audience when researching was males aged 18-29. If i was to say who i feel would be our target audience, it would be both genders aged 18 and above, this is because the main characters in our film, both victim and villain are female and because of the amount of gore that will be shown in the rest of our film this is what would draw the males to come see our film.

Chariss Lee- Question Three- film festival Nottingham
Local promotion is a great way to get started in the film industry and get your work/name noticed and it is a great opportunity for anyone to be involved. This film festival was shown in a independent cinema in Nottingham. You always have to start at the bottom and work your way up and this is a great way to do so.

question 3- Chariss Lee- Film poster ideas
Here are a number of posters/dvd covers from horror films, this is to give me many ideas when it come to creating my poster for my film.
These posters give you a sense that they are out to get someone/everyone and shows their is a particular victim. The images shown, show the genre of the film and also the colours used help you identify the genre.
These posters show death of people and a sense of mystery is given out by a head that is no longer attached to the body and teeth that are no longer attached to someone's gums- How did they get like this? These sum up a little about the film but with a image that makes people question what the film may be about.
This is a poster made for the film 'Let Me In' it shows the to main characters and the title of the film and many taglines. The title of the film is written in white to go with there theme colours in the poster, the title is also in capital letters and placed in the middle of the poster. This is what you see straight away. Below the title are many taglines which give you a rough idea of what the film may intail.
This poster has a number of images in it which staright away shows the audience what it is about. The title of the film is written in capitals and the colour red. The colour red relates to the title of the film 'Blood' (the colour of blood).
This poster draws you straight to the title and image as they both blend in together. The title is written in a bold font and the colours match the theme running through the poster.
question 3- chariss lee- part 1
This film was distributed by the production company 'Lions Gate'. Lion Gate is a major company and these are the ways they distribute their films.
In the clip shown above, it uses a lot of natural lighting, which lightens up the old grim rooms and puts a bit of life into them. By the look of the rooms, its a releif to have natural light in them because it must be a horrible experience to be in them alone at night with no light.
In the clip there is a shot showing a variety of tools and them being put to use, but on a humans toe, which shows the audience the film will be quite disturbing to many human beings.

It may be unusual to use orange, yellow and gold on the front cover of 'Hostel' because these kind of colours represent wealth, joy, happiness, attraction, warmth of the sun, however black represents death, power and evil. But when looking at the cover you know straight away its not some kind of fairytale and that it is a horror/thriller by the image shown but also the colours create a dark threatening effect on the viewer.
The font is very rough around the edges and with it being in capitals it makes it title clear and make sures it stands out by the font and colour used.
Chariss Lee- Question 3- Part 1
Black and blue are a Independent Film production and below are some examples of how they distribute their films.
Trailers are common when wanting to advertise a film and their aim is to draw people in and make them want to see the film.
Trailers are common when wanting to advertise a film and their aim is to draw people in and make them want to see the film.
Here is the dvd cover of 'Stalker' the colours used are similar to the colours used in the advertisement of 'Hostel' (orange, yellows and blacks) this gives off the effect that the film is not a happy romantic comedy and the colours shows the film is some kind of horror/thriller and the images shown also identify it is that kind of genre.
With the colours being quite dull it does not draw me in but it creates a great understanding of what type of film it is.

Chariss Lee- Question Three
Distribution means when you are ready to get your film out there (its ready to be seen by the public). For example when distributing your film you will create posters and trailers that will then be shown via youtube etc and posters/billboards will be put up around cities/busy areas to make sure it is seen.
When distributing my film, trailers will be shown in cinema's, via youtube and on TV also posters would put up in Media stores such as HMV etc and billboards will be put up in busy Cities.
Other ways of distributing films: you may show your trailer at film festivals. Interviews that may be put on the radio, in magazines and on television. Trailer/posters advertised on Facebook (big social sites).
Hammer Film Productions is a film production company based in the United Kingdom. Hammer is a independent company and below is a example of how they distribute their films.
Trailers are very popular when it come to distributing films. It gives the audience a rough idea of what the film is about and if they are intrigued and are drawn in by this trailer they are more likely to go see the film in cinemas or buy it on dvd.
This trailer shows the female being the victim and the male being the villain and how easily fooled she is by him because she thinks he is a nice genuine guy. With the voice over being a male with a deep clear understanding voice it helps sum up the film and creates a sense that the film is packed full of drama.

Chariss Lee- Question 5- Part 1
The Lost Boys
This film has a certificate of 15.
The target audience of this film are males aged 18-29- this may be because of the genre of the film being a comedy horror. When it comes to horrors both female and male may not like horror films full of gore, but here it is proven that males are more likely to watch/like horrors.
Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1
This has a certificate of 12A.
the target audience in this film are males aged 18-29. I thought because of the genre of the film being a romantic horror it will draw females aged between 15-25. However because of the genre being a horror it automatically draws males because they are more into the gore side of things a lot more then women, however in this case because of the certificate being a 12A you instantly no that their will be no gore- so this is puzzling that the ratings here show that males ages 19-29 are the target audience.
Dracula 2000
This has a certificate of 15.
The target audience here are also males aged 18-29. This being the 3rd vampire film having a target audience of males aged 18-29 i am realising that this may be who we should aim at to get the most ratings for our film. Although in a class discussion when wanting to make our certificate a 15, we had a debate that the film certificate should be risen to 18 so our target audience will come to see our films and do not choose not to only because it is rated at a 15 certificate, however in this case it shows that because of it being a 15 certificate does not mean a older generation will not come to see the film.
Let the Right One In
This had a certificate of 15.
The target audience in this film are males aged 18-29. This gender and age are proven to be a very popular target audience for vampire horror films. Also in this film with the vampire being female it shows that which ever gender the vampire is, males aged 18-29 are still going to see these films and are not bothered about the gender of the vampire.
Let Me In
This has a certifiacate of 15.
Let Me In is the english version of Let The Right One In and males aged 18-29 are still the main target audience and this film has a dash of romance in the film and even making it a romantic horror the target audience are still 18-29 year olds.
Overall the majority of these films have a certificate of 15, however we are making our certificate a 18 because there will be constant swearing and a lot of gore throughout the film.
Our target audience are males aged 18-29, seeing these results have shown us what males aged 18-29 would like to see, so by watching each film we can get a great understanding of what our target audience are wanting.
After researching into many vampire films on IMDB and looking at there target audience we made a decision to make or certificate a 18 and aim our film at 18-29 year olds. After seeing the majority of films above having a target audience of 18-29 we decided to watch a number of them each and get ideas of what our target audience may like. Our film to begin with starts with a number of female vampires, this is because we wanted to make our film a little different from others because in most vampire films, there is always a male vampire that is the leader. However making our main vampire a female will still draw males to the cinema. After asking a number of males aged 19, 20, 25 what they like to see in a horror vampire film they repsonded by saying 'a lot of gore', 'death', 'baddy and a goody', 'a hot vampire', 'blood', 'something different, like vampires may organise a dance club full of girls, but at the end of it, end up killing them all, apart from one girl and one boy'. This feedback gave us plenty of ideas what we could do with our film.
When planning our film we thought a main location such as a graveyard straight away relates to a vampire film and gives a great understanding what the genre of the film is to the target audience.
We didnt choose to have a lot of props in our film, this is because we wanted to show the power of the vampires just by using their body strengh. Men that like horror vampire films, like to see a lot of gore and action in their films.
In our title sequence we wanted to create fear and a tense feeling by doing a 'chase scene'. Building up tension by our female victim visting a graveyard but then hearing a number of creepy noises and deciding to leave, to then find out she is being followed by a number of female vampires and becoming trapped.
Vampire following victim.
Victim hearing noises.

Chariss Lee- Question 4- Part 2
Discrimination-
Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely to be acceptable unless clearly condemned.
Horror-
Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained.
Imitable behavior-
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorized.
Language-
Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent.
Theme-
Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.Violence-
Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.
Our film will not be able to be a 12 as there is to much gore, swearing and violence so it will not be able to be viewed to anyone under 12.
Discrimination-
The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour.
Horror-
Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.
Imitable behaviour-
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.
Language-
There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.
Theme-
No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds.
Violence-
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.
Our film will not be able to be a 15 as the attacking scenes are more brutal and are in great detail, also swearing will be used throughout the film.
The 18 certificate is suitable for adults because they are at that mature stage and can understand more things than anyone below this age. Our film will be a 18 certificate because brutal attacks will be shown in great detail.
Chariss Lee- Question 2- Part 2
Here is our victim/vampire. She starts off as the victim being bit but then she starts to turn into the vampire and becomes the attacker.
We have chosen for our attacker to be female aged 18, this was because we wanted to challenge stereotypes.
At the beginning of our film she looks very vulnerable because she is by her self at night, which doesn't challenge stereotypes because she is a teenager/female, however she is attacked by female vampires and becomes a vampire herself and this challenges stereotypes because vampires are known to be male because they are a lot 'stronger' than women.
Costume changes throughout different vampire films, such as Twilight the vampires wear casual clothing but films like Dracula have a pacific type in what vampire should look like such as wearing all black, trousers and a cape. However in out film we are sticking to leaving her in casual clothing.

Chariss- Question Two
In question two i have uploaded a clip from Let Me In and underneath is a paragraph analysing the representation in the film to give me inspiration when filming. I have spoke about the age and gender.
This is a clip from 'Let me In', i have chosen this particular part because it shows the age and gender of the vampire and the victim.
Usually with most vampire films the main vampire is male aged 18 and above, for example Dracula and Twilight, but in this case they have challenged stereotypes of a 'vampire' and used a young girl aged 14. Also victims in the films are normally any age and gender, but by having a 14 year old girl vampire you would not expect a full drown man to be the victim, however the way she played the victim by pretending to be a victim shows she has a lot of power and can set anyone in her trap.
Males are known to be stronger, quicker and more athletic/fitter than girls, so this is common to make a male the attacker.
Females are said to be more vulnerable and have a lot less strength then men, so this is common for females to be the victim.
So by this clip totally swapping stereotypes, it shows that you do not need to be male and strong to be the attacker.
QUESTION 2 PART 3
The image below are a variety of words that were repeated in our feedback sheets.
Social Groups...
In the film twilight there are female teenage vampires as well as male teenage vampires, so we decided to create a film having a number of female teenage vampires. Also our victim is female which is also shown in the film twilight, when Bella is fooled and attacked by a vampire as she tries to go save her mum at her old ballet school. In the film, the Twilight characters became very popular to viewers and people fell in love with each one of them, both male and female. We wanted to use girls in our film to show females have as much power as males.

Chariss- Question Two
In question two i have uploaded a clip from Twilight and underneath is a paragraph analysing the representation in the film to give me inspiration when filming. I have spoke about the age, gender and race.
This clip is from the film Twilight, i have chosen this particular scene because it shows their ages, gender, race. All the vampires are shown coming together as one and shows you the seperation between the good vampires and the bad vampires. In my film we show the 3 vampires that go capturing their victims, and then we show one of their victims becoming a vampire, but something is different with her. She does not want to go round killing humans, so she escapes.
Also the Cullen's family are shown, and the main characters out of this scene are young adults, around the age 17-19.
The victim in this scene, Bella, is a human, so when the 3 vampires come, the Cullen's know she is in trouble. This relates back to our film because our victim is female. Having the female as the victim is original, so is the main vampires being male, however Twilight is quite balanced out by how they have use female vampires with each group of vampires. The female vampires have as much control as the male vampires throughout this film which is not known in many vampire films- they challenge stereotypes by using females.
In this clip, most of the vampires are mainly white however when the bad vampires are introduced, there main leader is coloured. The mojority of vampire films i have watched use a lot of white actors and very few coloured people.

Chariss- Question One
In question one i collected a number of images that will be used to give me inspiration/ideas for my own film, for example my logo, title, mise en scene etc. Below each image will be a short paragraph explaining why a certain font, costume prop etc have be used.
Logo:
Here is a logo from Van Helsing. This logo is very simple but tells a lot about the genre of the film. The font is bold and because of the background being black and it being in capitals it is very tense and in your face. The image used also relates to the font that is used because the I in the title is the same as the image in the background. Universal and Van Helsing are very similar logos by them using a bold font shown in capitals. I like how capitals are used, this makes the image stand out a huge amount and is very in your face.
Our Opening Logo For Our Film.
Here is our logo, we chose a font that is bold and stands out. We chose white because it is a colour that stands out on a dark background and also our company name is in capitals so your eyes are drawn to OPAC. The pale skin and fangs show the genre of our film and gives a clear understanding to the audience that we are making a horror film.
Title Sequence:
Here is part of the title sequence from the film Blade II. As you can see there are a lot of dark blues and blacks used which represents darkness and fear. The sub titles are written in red which may represent blood. The image in the middle shows a batch of blades which not only relates to the title of the film but can hint to the audience that their may be a lot of violence in the film.
Titles:
Here is a image from our film titles. We chose a bold font because we wanted the titles to stand out and be noticeable, we also chose a font that has jagged edge because these are the type of fonts used in horror films. When choosing a colour font we decided to do the titles white, this is because when creating our logo it was the only colour that stands out from the picture and any other colour (e.g. Green, Blue) will be way off when relating to a horror film. We wanted to have a colour theme throughout our title sequence.

Sub-genre:
The genres of this film are comedy and horror. This image is from the film The Lost Boys, straight away you know it is a vampire film by the blood around the mouth and on the body, however by their body language/ how they are stood, they can not be taken to serious because they look like some kind of boy band.
Sub-Genre:
From this image you can see the genre of our film is a horror from the blood smothered on the face and the vampire bite on the neck. This image shows her going through changes of her becoming a vampire and becoming confused because she is in pain because her teeth are changing.
Mise en Scene:
In this image you see a lot of blood around the mouth and on the clothing. The clothing is very casual, jeans, t-shirt, shirt etc and this is shown by a long shot- introducing characters. The costume used in the film can give you a strong view on the genre film without even watching it. The location shows they are at a barn which are normally way out of the way from a neighborhood full of people. This can create tension because they are in the middle of no where and there will be no where to run.
Mise en Scene from our Film.
In this image from our film you see their costume and make-up, we wanted to keep the clothing casual because the majority of vampire films these days are dressed in casual clothing. The location of our film is the vampires 'hide out'. A small room that is only used to bring back their food and nothing else so by old chairs being shown and random mess all around the room shows the do not take care of their environment because they are not in it the majority of the day. They blend in well with other people but what singles them out are their fangs and blood around their mouth and on their clothes.
Key image:
Here is a image from Twilight. This image shows their relationship with each other which is a big part of the storyline in Twilight. By the way she is on his back shows they are both comfortable with each other also with them being at the top of the tree and her holding on to him shows us she trusts him.
Key image: (Twilight)
This image is from the baseball scene, here is where Bella spends her first time with the Cullen's. This images shows the relationship between the Cullen family and Bella and how they protect her when she is sussed out by the bad vampires. This tells the audience that they are a very protective caring family. The weather is looking very glum and dull which creates a gloomy atmosphere.
Key image: (Twilight)
This image is from the very beginning of the film when Edward meets Bella. He looks like any other teenager in the college, casual clothing and no one knows he is a vampire and either does Bella at this point. He doesn't have any signs of being a vampire here, such as the different coloured eyes, pale skin and blood all round his mouth.
Key image: (Twilight)
This image shows Bella in danger, we know this because of their body language and how he has his arm to her throat. His facial expressions show he is enjoying every minute and she is showing she is scared and vulnerable. The way he is staring right into her eyes and she is looking away instantly shows he has more power.
Here is a image from the film Let Me In. The way this is shot in a room that looks very dull and run down with her behind him and him looking very suspicious and worried about what he will see when he turns around shows that she has more power than him because she has no facial expression to show she is worried or scared. Also with her being covered in blood and it being all round her mouth shows this film is a vampire film and she isn't as innocent as she may make out to be (with her being very young).
Key Image:
This image shows Stevie being followed by a stranger but she doesn't have a clue a vampire is behind her. She is walking at a fast pace because when visiting her close relative at the graveyard she hears a noise coming from the trees and starts to get freaked out. She has her hands in her pockets and her head down looking at the floor, this is to show she is tense and just wants to get home.
Key image:
This image is taken from our title sequence, this is a key part in the film because this is where she is bitten and where the drama begins. She is in a vulnerable place and because she is on her own there is no-one there to help.
Key Image:
This image is taken from the film when she is bought back to the vampires living area. She starts to feel a difference in the way she is acting but can not stop her self from the bizarre things that she is doing. Here she is shown licking her blood because she like the taste. This image is showing the start of her transformation.
Key Image:
She doesn't want to be kept hostel and become one of them, so this image shows her escaping and making a run for it. This is a key image because after this scene the vampires are tracking her down to finish their job from trying to kill her, to making her one of them.
