Katie Smyth - previous work assessment
Strengths - They use good music, such as at the begining it creates a very mysterious atmosphere, also i like how they turn the camera when he's lay there passed out or asleep or whatever he is, as it looks good and make sit more interesting, also it is good when he wakes up and sits up into the camera.
Weaknesses - They could use a lot more close up's and extreme close ups as its quite far away at some points in it and then the audience would feel more involved and it would be more interesting for them to watch. Also when he's looking n the mirror ist is a very long shot and could be a bit shorter and use different shots in stead of it being one big long one such as could have an extreme close up of his teeth or whatever he was looking at whilst looking in the mirror, or a closeup of his face so the audience could see his facial expressions, such as he would likely to looked shocked, but you can't really see it clearly, as its just him looking in the mirror from a distance, even though it does zoom in , it is still quite far away.
You can tell by the music that it is a horror film as it is very mysterious and creepy and builds a lot of tension.
It uses a range of shots, such as tracking and a master shot and zoom and such, however i think they could make it more interesting by using different shts at different time than they did, and use more close ups so the audience feels more involved, as well as the longer shots so you can see what is ahppening,so they could add more shots in that are also shorter.
I think they use the rule of third very well.
I think it flows really good however the camera can be a bit jurkey at times.
It uses mis en scene well however i don't think they have that well as it could have been a better setting for a vampire film, such as somewhere more scary and such as the atmospehere wasn't that scary.
The sound is very good and creates fear as builds tension and mystery as not knowing what is going to happen, but since theres spooky music you know somehting is.
I give it a level 3.
